Color & Pattern
Glossy pale cream to warm yellow-tan base with distinct brownish-orange bands wrapping horizontally across the body whorl. The spire tips are white and pointed. Surface exhibits natural glossy luster, typical of olive shells which keep their shells polished using their mantle.

Description
Two small, beautifully polished olive-shaped gastropod shells displaying characteristic low spires, pointed apexes, and elongated body whorls. The shell on the left exhibits bright orange-brown spiral banding, while the shell on the right is a paler cream with subtle brownish blotches and a small hole near the spire.

Interesting Facts
The Lettered Olive is the official state shell of South Carolina (designated in 1984). Living olive snails burrow through sand like mini snowplows, using their soft fleshy mantle to completely enclose and protect the shiny exterior of their shell from abrasion.
Ecological Role
Active nocturnal carnivores and scavengers that burrow in sand to hunt small bivalves and crustaceans. Serves as prey for sea birds, crabs, and larger predatory gastropods.
