Size
Approximately 3 to 4 inches in length, which is a very typical size for mature specimens. Adults can range anywhere from 2.5 to 5 inches.
Color & Pattern
The exterior features a rich brown or reddish-brown base color overlaid with numerous characteristic white spots or circles, often resembling measles, bordered by faint transverse bands. The margins and base are white with brownish transverse teeth lining the narrow aperture, which opens to a pale purple or lavender interior.
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare as a live-collected beach find, as they tend to hide in deep reef crevices during the day, though well-worn specimens occasionally wash ashore after storms.
Habitat
Found primarily in shallow sub-tidal waters, typically inhabiting coral reefs, rocky outcrops, and areas with coral rubble, ranging from the low intertidal zone down to depths of about 30 meters.

Description
This is a magnificent and glossy specimen featuring a smooth, porcelain-like exterior finish characteristic of cowries. The oblong-oval shell has a domed dorsal surface adorned with its signature white spots. The underside is flattened with a long, narrow aperture flanked by prominent, well-defined teeth along both lips, revealing a lovely pale violet interior.

The most diagnostic features are the cylindrical-oval shape, the distinctive pattern of small white spots against a rich brown background, the heavy porcelain glaze, and the prominent teeth along the lengthy, narrow aperture.

Interesting Facts
Like all cowries, the living animal possesses a mantle that can extend entirely over the shell, keeping it clean of algae and continuously depositing glossy layers of calcium carbonate. In ancient times, cowries were widely used as a form of currency and symbols of wealth and fertility.
