Color & Pattern
Cream to light tan background featuring distinct zigzag, tent-like markings in shades of purplish-brown and gray resembling ancient hieroglyphics or letters. The coloration is somewhat sun-bleached with muted natural tones, showing the characteristic spiral bands of darker markings.

Common, frequently found washed ashore by beachcombers along the southeastern United States and Gulf coasts.
Habitat
Found primarily in shallow intertidal and subtidal waters down to about 30 feet, buried just beneath the surface of clean sandy flats, sandbars, and shifting coastal sand channels.

Description
An elegant, highly polished cylindrical shell with a very low spire and a long, narrow, slit-like aperture. The body whorl is smooth and glossy when fresh, tapering towards the anterior end which features a deep siphonal notch and distinct plications on the columella. The patterned exterior exhibits mesmerizing tent-like zigzags.
