Description
This is a heavily weathered, single valve of a large bivalve showing the interior surface. The valve is broadly ovate to sub-triangular with a thick, robust calcium carbonate structure. The interior is heavily pitted with numerous small boring holes created by marine sponges (such as Cliona) or bivalve predators. The cardinal teeth and hinge structure remain partially visible and intact in the upper right quadrant, showcasing the classic heterodont hinge characteristic of the Cardiidae family.
